Wound Recovery with Light Therapy

For some people, wound recovery can be slow or become chronic. Age, infections, or conditions like diabetes can interrupt the four stages of recovery: clotting, inflammation, new tissue formation, and remodeling.

Studies show that Photobiomodulation (PBM), a light-based therapy, boosts mast cell activity, which is linked to faster inflammation control, better blood vessel formation, and quicker immune cell migration.

PBM uses specific wavelengths of light, most notably blue light, to reduce inflammation, support recovery, and control bacterial growth. The light is absorbed by cell components, leading to effects like increased cell growth, improved cytokine activity, and faster wound closure.

PainLab offers light therapy using infrared, red, and blue light to support wound recovery. Sessions are comfortable and quick, taking less than 15 minutes each. Depending on the state of the wound, several sessions may be needed.
