Wound Healing with Light Therapy

For some patients wound healing can be slow or become chronic. Age, infections, or conditions like diabetes can interrupt the four stages of healing: clotting, inflammation, new tissue formation, and remodeling.

Studies show that Photobiomodulation (PBM), a treatment that uses light to help heal wounds, boosts mast cell activity, leading to faster inflammation control, better blood vessel formation, and quicker immune cell migration.

PBM involves using specific wavelengths of light, most specifically blue light, to reduce inflammation, promote healing, and control bacterial growth. The light is absorbed by cell components, leading to effects like increased cell growth, improved cytokine activity, and faster wound healing.

PainLab offers light therapy using infrared, red, and blue light to aid in the improvement of wound healing. The process is comfortable and quick taking less than 15 minutes per session. Depending on state of the wound, several sessions may be necessary to complete the healing process.
